I had so much fun painting this but even more fun going hiking up in the hills near the Cheviot mountains in Northumberland England. This was from a hike near Clennel where we walked up the valley along a burn (stream) and then circled back by going up the hills and walking back.

The road you see was once used by the Drover’s, sort of like cowboys, who used to drive the cattle for people to market far away. They would carry pistols as the cattle were worth a lot of money. You’ll enjoy reading my blog post from 2009 when we walked up there, http://marymcandrew.com/hike-up-clennel-10-16-09/. I have photos there and you can see the one that I used for this painting, done much later.
