“Hawthorn and Mossy Wall”

Gouache

I painted this in winter, the paddock behind had lots of snow and the branches were quite bare except for the red haws (berries). I just love all the moss that grows on our stone walls, so many gorgeous greens, rusty browns and the textures! Hawthorn trees are another great subject, each one so different and full of it’s own character. Many are twisted and gnarled by the wind, many have been cut as hedges and grew on when left. So they each take on their own characteristics, not to mention they are beloved by the Fairie Folk!

I did a blog post about this painting HERE, it shows lots of pictures of my progress and even the ink sketch I did in the field on a very cold January day!
