“Gate That Holds Back the Wild”

“Gate That Holds Back the Wild” / Watercolor and Ink

This is a view from the upper lane in Edlingham, Northumberland, a view very familiar to me as I walked there all the time. I always like taking pictures of gates in a landscape and hope to do more paintings of them. I liked this one because there are no farms or buildings in view but just the Cheviot hills far away. I’ve always called Northumberland a “land of far distant views”. I like how the forground is clear and sharp and things fade as they receed.
