“Three Insects” / Gouache + Ink on watercolor stained paper

These are all insects that I have seen and photographed in my own garden. I’m not an expert at insects but I really do love studying them and learning new ones that I notice. After I have ‘noticed’ an insect and discovered what it is, I start to see it so much more when working in the garden. This is what’s great about nature sketching, especially after painting it, you really keep it in your memory and take notice of things so much more! I’m fascinated by the Scorpion Fly and should do a larger scale painting of it. And I’ve also learned there are far too many hover flies for me to learn each, but so many that would be great to paint too.
