I almost put this one in my Wildlife + Nature section because the mouse and wildflower are quite realistic. But the mouse has just enough ‘character’ to push it over here into Storybook. The flower is actually “Chickweed -wintergreen” and I photographed it on a Northumberland moor in late spring. I painted this as soon as we got home from our walk. You can see it’s coming up where the dead dock leaves are and soon those will overshadow it. The young leaves had a lovely color mix of burgundy to green.
